The importance of sleep

Why is sleep important?

It’s clear from my precursor article, Understanding The Basics Of Sleep, that even mild insomnia can result in very serious consequences.

A lack of quality sleep shortens your life, reduces the quality of your life and, as Giacomo found out, can even kill you!

What are the benefits of sleep?

There isn’t a single outlying reason for why we sleep; in fact, scientists are now starting to prove that there are many benefits.

Each stage of sleep offers a different form of benefits; for example, sleep spindles in stage 2 aid memory consolidation and learning, whilst deep sleep in stages 3 and 4 supports recovery and repair.

This makes it important for you to complete a full night of sleep cycles to obtain the full benefit.

If sleep does not serve an absolutely vital function, then it is the biggest mistake the evolutionary process has ever made.

 – Allan Rechtschaffen

The most notable benefits of sleep can be separated into three main categories: mental, physical and lifestyle. For a more detailed explanation of each type of benefit, click on the relevant link below:

  1. Mental
  2. Physical
  3. Lifestyle (social)

Sleep tactics for YOU!

Once you have read the articles above and understand the benefits of sleep, you then must find what sleep tactics work for YOU!

Read the two articles How To Nap and Tips To Improve Sleep to find out what techniques work best for YOU!

Scientists have discovered a revolutionary new treatment that makes you live longer. It enhances your memory and makes you more creative. It makes you look more attractive. It keeps you slim and lowers food cravings. It protects you from cancer and dementia. It wards off colds and the flu. It lowers your risk of heart attacks and stroke, not to mention diabetes. You’ll even feel happier, less depressed, and less anxious. Are you interested?
